- Do I need to switch to nbn™ Fibre?
- If you live in an area where nbn™ has been rolled out and wish to keep your internet service and landline then yes, you will need to switch before the copper services are disabled.
- What happens to my services when the copper network gets disconnected?
- The copper network will be disconnected approximately 18 months after nbn™ Fibre (FttP/FttB/FttN) is installed in an area.
NOTE: If your premises receives an nbn™ Fixed Wireless or Satellite service, your copper line will not be disconnected. It will still be serviced by the existing copper network for home phone (landline) services only.
- Why is the existing network being disconnected?
- The nbn™ network is an upgrade to replace all existing telecommunications networks.
- How many devices can I connect to nbn™ broadband?
- The nbn™ equipment for Fibre to the Premises (FttP) broadband allows one device to be connected to the active data port via Ethernet cable. You will then be able to connect multiple devices with an nbn™ ready WiFi modem. For nbn™ Fibre to the Building/Node (FttB/FttN) services, you’ll need to connect a VDSL2-enabled WiFi modem to the wall socket used for your nbn™ broadband connection.
- Will I need a technician appointment for installation?
- If your premises needs a new copper line, a technician will be required to attend to complete the copper cabling. If you already have an nbn™ service connection that is active, it is not likely that you’ll need a technician’s visit.
-For Fibre to the Home [FTTH/FTTP] – If you require an external box [network termination device] and/or connection box, then an installer is required to attend your premises. A network termination device will be installed outside of your premises and the connection device will be installed inside.
-For Fibre to the Node [FTTN/FTTB] – In most cases an installer won’t be required, but sometimes an installer will need to attend to check connectivity or if a new copper line or wall socket is required.
-For Hybrid Fibre Coaxial [HFC] – HFC connections require an nbn™ access network device to be installed at the point where the line enters your home. This device requires power to operate, and can be installed by an approved nbn™ installer or service provider.
- What is the time frame for installation?
- If you require an installer at your premises for an external box to be fitted, the wait time is between 2-3 weeks, but this is determined by the local installer and his time frame.
- Will I need to be home if an installer is required at my home?
- In most cases an nbn™ installer won’t be required, but you will be contacted ahead of time if you need to be present at the time of installation.
- What do I need to do to prepare for the installation before my appointment?
- You’ll need to decide where you want the nbn™ connection box and power supply box to be installed, which will be installed inside your premises.
The ideal place will be:
- As close as possible to where you connect your router, main computer as well as landline phone.
- In a cool, dry ventilated area.
- Near an accessible power point.
- Is there a cost for equipment and installation?
- No, all equipment and installation are provided free of charge for a standard install and is covered by nbn™. Fees may apply for non-standard installs, the technician will advise of these fees.
- Will my FttP network work if there is a power failure?
- No, your service will not work in the event of a power outage. Fibre to the premise or home (FttP/FttH) can only operate during a power outage if a battery backup unit is also installed.
- Can more than one person have a broadband connection at one property?
- Yes, fibre to the premises and nbn™ connection boxes come with four data ports, so up to four connections can be installed at a single premises.
