Fibre to the Premises/Home [FTTP/H]

nbn™ Fibre to the Premises or nbn™ Fibre to the Home is connected via a fibre optic cable. This cable will run from the nearest available fibre node straight to your home or business, connecting to your utility box which is located on an outside wall of your premises. The utility box is then connected internally, wiring to your nbn™ connection box and the power supply unit inside of your premises.

Fibre to the Node/Building [FTTN/B]

nbn™ Fibre to the Node is a technology where Fibre optic cables will enter an area where nbn™ have installed a node/cabinet which will then be delivered to your premises through an existing copper cable. The copper cabling will connect from the node to a wall socket inside your premises.

nbn™ Fibre to the Building is generally used when connecting an apartment block or similar types of buildings. The fibre optic cable is run to the buildings communications room where there will be a node/cabinet which connects to each apartment individually using the existing cabling.

Hybrid Fibre Coaxial [HFC]

nbn™ Hybrid Fibre Coaxial is when a ‘pay TV’ or existing cable network will be used to make the final connection to your premises. The coaxial cable will run from the nearest node and will connect from the nbn™ termination device outside of your premises to a wall socket inside your premises. If you have a pay TV service, the wall socket will be fitted with a cable splitter. This will allow your connection to have a port for your nbn™ connection box and port for your Pay TV service.
